The goal of this project was to determine the feasibility of lowering the existing East Mountain Road below the CSX railroad bridge which currently presents an undesirable height restriction. Overland provided SUE services including utility record research, quality level B & C mapping of all existing subsurface utilities crossing under the bridge and behind the abutments; and profiling of the drainage systems below the bridge out falling to the Westfield River to evaluate potential flooding consequences. Overland also performed quality level A non-destructive air vacuum excavation test pits at 4 locations along the bridge abutments to evaluate existing condition of bridge footings and determine available vertical clearance.
